Warm weather has me nostalgic for ocean waters, beach breezes, and fun vacation days.

Travel has taken a halt around the world due to COVID-19 but that doesn’t stop me from being nostalgic about past trips.

Last year, I did my first ever beach house trip with 9 of my closest friends for my birthday in May. A whole 6-8 hours drive led us to a small town called Oak Island in North Carolina.

This place is a family-friendly beach so showing up to the shore and finding it empty was nice. The wind blowing all our faces, not so much. At least it made for a great commercial photoshoot for us ladies. 😂

It was a pleasant surprise to find the water was NOT freezing cold. Given that summer doesn’t officially start until June, it was safe to say we thought we were only going to be dipping our toes in the water. The guys in our group thought otherwise.

Making sandcastles is one of those activities you may have done as a kid but I find it a creative outlet even as an adult. Even better, I had all my friends participate in a sand-building contest. Perks of being the birthday girl. 💁🏻‍♀️

Overall, Oak Island is a nice alternative to Myrtle Beach or the Outer Banks if you want a more budget-friendly and seclusive trip.
